A STORY WORTH TELLING:
What makes a great story?
The stories that come from the heart and have inspiration from our surroundings are the stories that last. These are the stories you tell your friends at a camp fire, or on a long drive.
My Bus Stop is a story that had metaphors both in action and in dialogue. Something that connects on a subconscious level.
My Bus Stop literally came to me in the middle of the night. I woke up from a deep sleep around 2am and just started to write. The story poured out of me faster than I could write. Why? I don’t know. Somethings are best not questioned.
The characters came to life on the pages. I took little tidbits of my life experiences and wove a tale based on people that I knew or had known.
Every story starts with the question... what if?
What if a lonely bus driver met a homeless man on his bus route, and discovered that this man was a brilliant writer and artist that suffered from mental disorders? What if the homeless man had a successful life at one time, a beautiful wife who had learned over the years to cope with his mental illness, and what if that man had other secrets?
What if the bus driver was simply a Good Samaritan who helps the homeless man write a book about the bus stop he calls home, and in doing so, forges a deep friendship. What if the bus driver brought this man back home?
That was the basis for this story...
